VERACRUZ MEXICAN RESTAURANT

Here is a review for Veracruz Mexican Restaurant on Forbes Avenue, next to Subway. I prefer to mix up the Oakland dining scene a bit, so we went to Veracruz today. Compared to Chipotle, the food is pretty much equivalent, although Veracruz uses less spices but seems more authentic.

AMBIANCE

Not much can be said about a quick food joint, but the paintings of the Mexicans on the wall always make me smile. Also, they were playing Telenovela on the tv, so it doesnt get more authentic then that. The tables are Green and Red, the same color of the Mexican flag. Thats authentic!

SERVICE

They service here is good. For a fast food place, I like the service a lot more then Subway or Wendy's. Not only do they bring the food to the table, but they gave us an extra cup for pop. Thats pretty good service.

FOOD

Vegetable Burrito - My date was not impressed with the burrito. They used carrots and zucchini, which is not too authentic for a Mexican fast food restaurant. She would of preferred peppers and onions, not run of the mill vegetables. Regardless, the vegetables were kind of mushy. The beans on the burrito were good though. I guess we will go to Chipotle for a vegetable burrito sometime.

Burrito - 5/10

Chicken Quesadilla - If you ask anyone, I love to eat a nice quesadilla. This is exactly what I got. The chicken was cooked perfecetely and the mix of cheeses melted in my mouth. I would definetely come here for a Quesadilla again. Compared to Qdoba's quesadilla, this one was very good and not mushy.

Quesadilla - 8/10

Chips - The chips here are pretty good. They are the most authentic Tortilla Chips I had in a while.

Pico de Gallo - This pico de gallo is delicious. Every ingedient seems fresh and the pico de gallo is not too watery. Compliments the chips nicely.

Salsa - This salsa was SPICY! Just the way I like it.

LAST THOUGHTS

This restaurant is in a tough market, competing with Qdoba and Chipotle. To put it simply, Veracruz is underappreciated. If you need a quick taco or quesadilla, this is the place to come. Beware of the Vegetable Burrito though!
